Belief on Eonil and the Xaverion Islands

Overview

Faith remains deeply woven into life on Eonil, though not all beliefs are equally accepted. On the Xaverion Islands,
the religions of Church of the New Faiths are the dominant and officially recognised forms of worship. Older beliefs still endure
in secret, in scattered traditions, and in places where the reach of the current faith is weaker.

The Old Faiths

The oldest known religions are those devoted to Ghor, Quintra, and Denday. These faiths are often referred to as the
Old Faiths or dead religions, though it is common knowledge that the old gods themselves were not destroyed, only banished
from Eonil.

Ghor was the first god and is associated with chaos and corruption. Quintra and Denday, the twin goddesses of light and
darkness, rose against Ghor and shaped much of the world that followed. Though both were worshipped widely in earlier ages,
conflict between their followers left deep scars on history.

Eonil herself is also remembered in belief, especially through the traditions preserved by the Ee’dornil and in the stories
surrounding the creatures and sanctuaries said to belong to her.

All of these old gods are believed to still have followers somewhere on Eonil, though such worship is hidden, secretive,
or confined to isolated societies and cults.

The New Faiths

The New Faiths arose near the end of the Age of Darkness, when four new gods appeared upon Eonil: Thoron, Myalanna,
Envylon, and Ysandra. Together their religions spread across the Xaverion Islands and became the only officially
recognised faiths of the present age.

Each of the four gods embodies a distinct philosophy and season:

  • Thoron — Winter, struggle, and earned power
  • Myalanna — Spring, inevitability, and becoming
  • Envylon — Summer, lineage, bloodright, and order
  • Ysandra — Autumn, learning, aid, and shared effort

Though each faith has its own teachings and followers, the four are not treated as rivals on the Xaverion Islands. Their
religions function side by side and together form the spiritual foundation of the current age.

The 8th Faith

Some speak of an eighth faith known as Cause and Consequence. Its supporters reject the idea that the New Faiths were
brought by gods at all. Instead, they believe that the future is shaped entirely by mortal action, and that the rise of the
New Faiths was the result of history, power, and circumstance rather than divine will.

The recognised religions do not consider this a true faith, since its followers do not believe in gods in the conventional sense.
Even so, gatherings of those who share this belief do exist, and their ideas are known across the islands.

Religion on the Xaverion Islands

In daily life, most people on the Xaverion Islands are supporters of one of the New Faiths, though many do not dedicate
themselves exclusively to a single god. Temples, seasonal celebrations, and household customs all reflect the strong presence
of the four recognised faiths.

Other beliefs persist more quietly, whether through old customs, secret worship, family traditions, or local superstition.

Eonil

The only exception to the rule is the worship of Eonil as a divine being. Old stories whisper that Eonil herself used to be a goddess and so worship of her is most commonly found in worship of nature which the Church of the New Faiths silently allows.

Ee'dornil and Druids worship Eonil as an actual goddess, but because they are a rare sight to be seen the Church of the New Faiths let them be so long as they don't go against their teachings. Other creatures said to have been born of Eonil who worship Eonil now only exist in tales of old and are mostly considered extinct.
